Seeing red

Red peppersI read somewhere that the best way to get peppers to redden is to stop watering them. Never one to miss an excuse to be lazy, I immediately stopped watering! Well, I actually water them every second or third day as I can’t bear them looking sorry for themselves.

Anyway, it’s worked. My red peppers have worked a treat, and are fantastic. The jalapenos are a bit slower to go red, but as you can see from the photo, they’re getting there!

My best peppers ever

Peppers in my greenhouse

I’ve been growing peppers for a few years with little success, in fact I almost didn’t try any this year. They’ve been very small and they’ve always been green, wilting or dying before reddeding. But I persisted and tried sowing some jalapeno peppers and some redskin peppers in Spring. I haven’t done anything different to previously but this year’s crop have been great. The fruit have grown really big and the redskins are beginning to redden nicely. The only disappointment is that the jalapenos taste a little bland when green, I think I’ll have to wait for them to redden before harvesting.
